During this festive season, many Petersfield u3a members will doubtless have been celebrating with a glass of mulled wine or a mince pie.
But the Petersfield Dippers do things their way …
Earlier this month, a group (pictured above) headed to Eastney Beach, where they ‘enjoyed’ a water temperature of a bracing 10C!
Dates for your Diary
If your 2025 diary looks a little empty, a selection of open meetings (featuring guest speakers) is being held at Petersfield Community Centre next month.
Monday 13 January at 2.30 pm: Gilbert White's House & Gardens
Wednesday 15 January at 2.30 pm: West Dean, a feudal estate
Tuesday 21 January at 2 pm: Energise Me
Tuesday 28 January at 2 pm: Plastic-degrading enzymes
And at the Centre on Wednesday 29 January (10 am-12.30 pm), there’s an opportunity to mingle with fellow members on the first coffee morning of the New Year.
Around & About
If proof is needed, you’re never too old; read on …
Members of Writing Group 2 recently met and had lunch with best-selling author Anne Youngson.
Anne shared her journey to writing success, which began after she retired from a career in industry and saw her first novel published at the age of 70. Now 77 and with a strong following in Europe and the USA, Anne is still writing books.
Meet the MC
One of the newest members to join the Management Committee (click here to put faces to names) is Pauline Kneen, who has taken on responsibility for Petersfield u3a volunteers.
Pauline has always enjoyed volunteering, including 20-plus years with Homestart. She once travelled with Save The Children to Cambodia, where, during a photoshoot to promote the trip, she ate a deep-fried locust!
“Before joining the MC, I had no idea just how many hours were put in behind the scenes,” said Pauline. “I’m delighted that so many members want to volunteer. It will be wonderful to see the developments in 2025.”
And finally ...
We wish every Petersfield u3a member a very happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.

The next issue of ‘Connect’ will be emailed to you on Saturday 3 January, with an earlier-than-normal copy deadline for all contributions of Monday 30 December.
