Talk by David Youll
While millions of quasars have been identified because of their high brightness (often brighter than galaxies) and small size (usually less than a light-year across), they are truly fascinating objects with many unusual and unique characteristics.
After a long career in IT, David now spends his spare time researching galaxies and quasars (he has a PhD in Astronomy from Imperial College). His latest project has been aided in no small part by the vast body of observational data gathered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, embracing millions of galaxies and over 700,000 quasars. David hopes this presentation will demonstrate what amateur astronomers can achieve in their own homes using publicly available data.
