Supercomputers have underwritten the technology of our lives over the last 50 years. They enable all sorts of innovation in other fields, from defence, weather forecasting, through advanced manufacturing to energy generation and recovery, to electronics design, aerospace performance and automotive design optimisation. This talk will cover:

  • How supercomputing emerged and developed
  • How to exploit the raw power supercomputers enable
  • Some example applications in which the authors have been involved in developing.

Kevin graduated in Engineering and has worked in the supercomputer industry for almost his whole career. His experience included the design, installation, and testing of many high-performance computing systems.

Mark was a professor of Computational Modelling at Greenwich and Swansea Universities with stints at UC Berkeley and the University of Minnesota. He was involved in developing strategies, tools and techniques for exploiting the raw power of supercomputers to run large complex models in a realistic timeframe.
