Gunpowder is generally agreed to have been one of the four most influential innovations in world history.
This presentation reviews the evidence for the origins of gunpowder and suggests a more rational development. 
The raw materials are discussed and its evolution from small scale manufacture to a major industry. Some 'well known facts' are questioned and some unusual uses are shown.
