Interest Groups FAQ
I'm not a u3a member yet. Can I join an Interest Group? No, you can't join a Group until you are a member. However, several groups allow 'taster' sessions to help you decide. You can email the Group Convenor, who will advise you.
A group that I am interested in is full. What are my options? Most groups operate waiting lists, so you can email the Group Convenor using the link on the Group page to see if that is possible. You can also contact the Groups Coordinator, who may be able to help you and other interested members to start a new group on the same subject. Also, please look below at what happens if I can't find anything I want.
What does it cost to belong to a group? Nothing - unless costs arise from the group's activities. These costs are usually shared equally among group members.
What are my obligations as a group member? The specifics will vary from group to group, but an overriding principle is that our u3a is operated by and for members. This means that whilst every member is welcome to benefit from our u3a, s/he is also expected to give of themselves.
I joined the u3a to attend a particular interest group. Am I also allowed to attend the monthly General, Arts and Heritage, Health and Well-Being, and Science and Technology meetings? Absolutely. These monthly meetings are open to all members. Click on What`s On to see details of future meetings.
I'm a new Petersfield u3a member and uncomfortable joining a group where I don't know anybody. You'll find our groups very friendly, but we understand. We have an active Welcome Group who will be happy to meet with you and help you by, for example, making some introductions. There are also coffee mornings for new members to meet existing and other new members and to learn more about the u3a. Click to contact the Welcome Group.
What happens if I can't find anything I want? All our interest groups are led by members who have enjoyed starting their groups and others with similar interests. Our Groups Coordinator can help you start a new group or an additional group on an existing subject.
Am I generally covered by u3a public liability insurance when participating in a u3a activity? Yes. Find out more on the Insurance page.
Got more questions? Contact the Groups Coordinator or contact a Group Convenor by going to the Groups page and sending a message to the Group Convener using the link.
