Shoreline Artists on the South Coast 1750-2015
Dr Gill Clarke has published widely on 20th-century British art. Join us at 2.30 pm on Wednesday 17 June at the Community Centre as Gill explores how artists from the 18th century to the present day have been inspired by cliffs, beaches and harbours on our South Coast. She will draw attention to “Storms and Safe Havens” and works by Constable, Turner, Ravilious and Kurt Jackson.

Health Matters - My traumatic experience of sepsis
A number of years ago, John McCarthy innocuously banged his leg, which led to four months in hospital and his leg being amputated above the knee. This talk will take us through his understanding of sepsis following this traumatic experience.

Science and Technology – Those little miners: how we use microbes to extract metals
Dr Carmen Falagan explains bioleaching – the use of microorganisms for extraction of minerals. This technology was developed several decades ago and uses acidophilic (acid-loving) microorganisms. This approach reduces operational costs while also reducing the amount of mine waste generated, reducing the impact of mining in the environment.
