Whether you’re a complete sceptic, an ardent fan, or are simply undecided, the talk at Petersfield Community Centre on Tuesday 15 July is sure to provide food for thought.

Local medical herbalist Kate Parker will be sharing her knowledge of the power of plants, giving an outline of the history of herbs and their uses in treating a variety of conditions ranging from arthritis to asthma and headaches to joint pain. She will also cover traditional Chinese medicine.

Did you know … 

  • Henry VIII was a huge champion of herbal medicines, putting forward the Medicines Act of 1542.
  • In World War II conkers were a major contributor to the healthcare system as they contained the precursor to chloroform. 
  • If a plant has the species name ‘officinalis’, it has been recognised as having medicinal properties. 
  • Over 60 percent of the world’s population rely on herbs for treatment.

  • Family History Group 2 has now broken up for the summer.
    If you’re thinking about refreshing your family history research or even starting from scratch, you’d be welcome to join the group when it resumes on Wednesday 10 September at 10am at Petersfield Community Centre.
