Getting ready to party: Management Committee members Bernice O’Reilly (left) and Rose Noonan

More than 100 members – including some who were there at the very start of the adventure – recently gathered at the Community Centre to celebrate 30 years of Petersfield u3a.
“This was an opportunity to recognise and say ‘thank you’ to those who started and grew the u3a in Petersfield to an established position from which all of us have benefited so much,” said Chair Charles Price.
The event also paid tribute to one long-serving member, Bob Simmons, who was the convenor of the Painting group. He passed away last December, not quite making his 100th birthday (this month). Bob’s daughter, Bridget, came along to share some of his work (including a dramatic seascape painting and a model of a wooden ship) while Painting group member David Castle gave a touching speech to recognise Bob’s contributions.
The celebrations would not have been such a success without the hard work of many members, doing everything from collating the guest list and taking photographs to setting up the room and serving refreshments. Sincere thanks go to Christina Chard, Sheila Gadd, Diana Gange, Barbara Hague, Sue Hubber, Kay Lindon, Tony Neale, Frances Press, Sue Read, and Liz Willars – along with all the Management Committee members who got the event off the ground and acted as hosts on the day.
