Alan has enjoyed various careers; as a State Registered Nurse, he specialises in orthopaedics, caring for patients with conditions affecting bones, muscles, and nerves.

A later career change took him into journalism and many years as a reporter with the BBC. In his retirement, Alan has returned to his interest in medical matters, delving into the mysteries of the brain and human psychology
