British Film Institute visit on 10th February by members of the Film Interest Group.
Twenty-two of us attended the BFl on London's Southbank, for an informative visit hosted by lan O'Sullivan in the facility's Reuben library, followed by time in the Mediatheque on-line resource.
A 55 minute presentation by lan traced the founding of the organisation under Royal Charter in 1933, describing how over the past 92 years the BFI has grown in the role as a cultural charity, maintaining the world's largest film archive, including 55,000 fiction films - mainly British, over 100,000 documentary titles and information films, a vast collection of books and magazines within the library which are freely available to the public, all of the BBC's recorded library, maintains the Parliamentary sound & vision records, under contract to Ofcom for real time' recording of all mainstream TV channels, operating four cinemas seven days a week, providing a relay of in-house film festivals, a continuing programme of talks and student accessibility, overseeing vast storage facilities under its control at Berkhamsted & Warwick, as well being the distributor of National Lottery funds to film makers and as the UK Government's lead body for film and the moving image.

Visit to the Wes Anderson exhibition.
Fifteen FIG members had a delightful visit to the Wes Anderson exhibition at the Design Centre – Kensington on 17th February 2026.
Our visit was hosted by Assistant Curator Ugbad Yussuf, who was part of the team that worked with Anderson on the creation of the exhibition, which took nearly three years to complete & is compiled from props, clothing, scripts, location stills, puppets, stop motion figures & so much more from the Anderson collection, all of which is stored in this country.
Each of Anderson’s films were given their own space, commencing with ‘shorts’ made at his film school at UNT, where he teamed up with actor brothers Owen & Luke Wilson, together with their professional photographer mother Laura, who helped propel all their careers, Owen having had a feature role in many of Andersons movies, together with Roman Coppola & other movie alumni who have worked in various roles.
On display until 26th July 2026, a visit to the exhibition is thoroughly recommended, in fact it’s a ‘must see’ for true film aficionado’s.
We were pleased to be joined by co-founder of our film group Andy Borthwick with his wife Joyce.
Thanks must go to Martin for making our travel arrangements so effortless & to John for the photos.
