Current Affairs 1

Current Affairs Group 1 Vacancies
Current Affairs Group 1 group consists of up to 12 people, and we have vacancies. The name of the group describes what it says on the tin: current affairs. These include both small and large issues: local  (e.g. planning, recycling) national (e.g. health services, assisted dying, politics), international (e.g. Middle East, US elections) and personal (e.g. prescription charges).

We try to keep a lid on party politics, but these enter our lives in many ways.

Meetings can be lively but views are treated respectfully. Unless, of course, you are wrong.

Starter topics are suggested for each meeting and members volunteer further topics in the meeting, or they generate spontaneously.

If interested, contact me on the link below and come to a taster meeting and decide if you’d like to join.
We meet at 10:30 on the third Thursday of the month in the Community Centre. We pay £120 a year for the room.

Status:Active, open to new members
Convenor:
When: Monthly on Thursday mornings
Meets on the 3rd Thursday at 10:30 am - Noon
Venue: Petersfield Community Centre

The meetings cover local, national and international issues which allow members to both explore each other’s ideas and views as well as try to gain a greater understanding about what lies behind matters.

They last for 90 minutes and the members select the topics that they feel are worthy of discussion. An informal and relaxed atmosphere is aimed to encourage debate with numbers kept to under ten participants to allow sufficient time for individuals to contribute. The meeting is chaired to share any discussion fairly around the group and every effort is made to listen to, appreciate and understand differing views.

Occasionally a member will make a more detailed presentation of a topic before discussion especially when they have a particular knowledge or expertise about the issue.
