Talk by Dr Gale Pettifer
The New Forest pony is often described as the ‘architect of the Forest ’, and this illustrated talk aims to explain how the ponies shaped the land and also how the land has shaped them. It covers their herd structure, grazing habits, breeding cycle and pony round-ups or ‘drifts’.
Gale is Clerk and Proper Officer at Brockenhurst Parish Council and is also a practising commoner with her own ponies roaming the forest - 220 square miles of open heathland.
