Stroller Reports 2023

Midhurst Castle, 29th November 2023

We had a bumper turnout for our walk on 29th November which took us around Midhurst and was ably led by Rose and Peter.
It was a glorious morning with the sun shining throughout. Our fear of a cold windy walk was unfounded.
We saw the town stocks, learnt about the old wharf, Midhurst Castle on St Anne's Hill and of course the impressive Cowdrey ruins. The 1.5-hour walk was followed by a lovely lunch at the nearby Greyhound PH.
I was pleased to see two new walkers joining us and one who has rejoined.

Staunton County Park, 25th October 2023

After the torrential rain overnight we trusted the weather forecast and set off on our walk on Wednesday 25 October around Staunton Country Park ably led by Nancy and John. Eight of us enjoyed the walk with a further two joining us for lunch at the Harvester.
We enjoyed the wooded area sighting a fallow deer and the various follies and sculptures as well as the beautiful lake. There was also sight of the new reservoir being built to provide much-needed water supplies but not until 2029.
At the end of the walk, we investigated the walled garden containing the Storey Garden Orchard where plants and vegetables are grown and sold by people with learning difficulties.
The walk was about 3k in total and most of it was in clear weather with a promising blue sky above.
Pictures attached of the group on one of the follies - the Beacon, at an information point and the lovely bridge on the lake

On Wednesday 27th September 14 of us enjoyed a 2.75-mile walk around Kingsley Common and The Straights ably led by Ray and Diana (who kept rearguard). The weather was kind and there was no hint of Storm Agnes.

We took in the water lily lake and saw some Alpacas along the way. Not a stile in sight, just two wooden bridges which were easy to cross.

A good lunch was provided at the Three Horseshoes East Woldham.

East Meon, 30th August 2023

Strollers1 East Meon
Izaak-Walton,-East-Meon

Wednesday 30th August saw my first walk as convenor.

Twelve of us, ably led by Brian and Julia, walked 2.5 miles around the East Meon boundaries followed by lunch at The Izaak Walton.

A slight detour when we came to a field of bullocks and maybe a bull and Brian rightly decided discretion was the better part of valour.

We visited the beautiful Norman Church with its amazing millennium embroidery depicting the village in the year 2000 and passed many of the medieval buildings still standing in the village today.

The next walk is Wednesday 27th September around Kingsley Common and the Straights
