Sandy joined Petersfield u3a in 2022 when she and her husband, Russ, moved here. “We didn’t know anyone at all. Volunteering meant getting involved with a local community of people and becoming a part of it.” In her working life, Sandy taught physics and ran the science department in a secondary school. These days, she enjoys participating in three u3a groups: ‘Cryptic Crosswords’, ‘Play Reading’ and the ‘Book Circle 3’ group, as well as visiting interesting places, gardening and reading. Sandy and Russ have two sons with young families, both living abroad: one is in Dublin and the other in Perth – Western Australia, not Scotland! Within the u3a, as well as meeting new people and working as part of a team, Sandy values “hearing interesting talks on a variety of topics &, most importantly, making good friends.”
