Peter joined Petersfield u3a in 2017 when he returned to the UK after 40 years in South Africa. He is a Committee member, the Discussion and Open Groups Hub coordinator and Café Philo convenor. He volunteered because he felt his career, in which he managed IT for a precious metals mining company and later became a consultant, gave him skills that could be useful, “and volunteering is fun and fulfilling”. He once had to reverse “over half a kilometre to avoid a confrontation with some upset elephants in South Africa’s Kruger Park”. These days, he enjoys walking on the Downs – “What a privilege!” – and two u3a groups: International Affairs and Café Philo. As a u3a member, Peter values “the opportunity to meet, talk and do interesting things, keeping my mind active”. As a volunteer, he enjoys “getting to meet and work with new people and having fun!”
