Physic garden

A physic garden, also known as an apothecary’s garden or kitchen garden, is a
historically significant place where plants with medicinal properties are
cultivated
.

A visit to the Petersfield Physic Garden is being organised on Monday 20 April from 2.00pm – 4.00pm, by Gardening Group 2 and there are a few spaces for any interested u3a members. There will be a walk around the garden and a talk from a Physic Garden gardener in the meeting room, with an opportunity to ask questions, plus tea and biscuits. The cost is £4 per person. To book your place, phone Jenny Stevinson on 07738 247599.

Dates for your Diary

2.30pm – Monday 13 April
General Interest – Speaker Tony Harris as Donald J. Trump
Tony is a professional raconteur and “in character” performer, a facet of his career which began several years ago when he lived and worked at Hampton Court Palace. Every other day, for two years, he played Henry VIII for the benefit of more than half a million tourists. Since then, he has developed a repertoire of famous characters. This talk is described as a fun, factual look at Trump’s second presidency.

2.30pm – Wednesday 15 April
Arts and Heritage – Jane Austen – A Life and Legacy
Our speaker, Fiona Macconnacher, is a volunteer at Jane Austen’s house at Chawton and will shortly become a Director with Historic Houses. Jane Austen (1775-1817) began writing at an early age, and is buried in Winchester Cathedral.

2.00pm – Tuesday 28 April
Science and Technology – 100 Piers – Painting at the Water’s Edge
Several years after a commission to paint Eastbourne pier, artist Paul Tracey (a Hampshire resident and Petersfield u3a member) painted Bournemouth pier, then Southsea pier … and so began a series of 100 piers. While painting them, Paul also discovered their “personalities”, some of which will feature in his talk. He has had many solo and group exhibitions of his work which includes paintings, drawings and prints. He is also the UK product specialist for TurboCad design software, used worldwide in the design of engineering and architectural projects.

12.00pm – Thursday 30 April
The popular Members Lunch is preparing to hold its next event at The Queen’s Head in Sheet. All u3a members are welcome.
