The Spring Break in Weymouth ~ 11th -14th May 2026

Thirteen members of our group have returned from an enjoyable break based in Weymouth.

The introductory ride on the Monday, led by Brian and Julia, took us around the Eastern side of Weymouth on cycle paths and sometimes on roads by the Radipole Nature Reserve and through the Lodmore Country Park onto Overcombe for refreshments and views across Weymouth Bay.

Riders by the Portland Bill Lighthouse

On Tuesday Trevor and Heather led a challenging ride up and into Portland first to see the views of Chesil Beach and the Fleet as well as Weymouth Bay. We then rode on to visit the Portland Museum and then down to Portland Bill for refreshments and recovery before returning back to our respective starting places.

Feeding the Swans at Abbotsbury

On Wednesday we started in Upwey, just north of Weymouth, and travelled through quiet country lanes and a cycle track to Abbotsbury, where we stopped for refreshments. Some of our group meandered around the interesting village, whilst others cycled on to the Swannery and were able to feed some of the numerous swans that are kept there. After this our group gathered together and cycled on through more undulating country lanes through some pretty villages and back to our starting point. Thanks to Sue and Chris for finding such a pleasant route and an interesting day out.

Riders at Sculptures By The Lakes

On Thursday we travelled to Dorchester to start another quiet route to Pallington Lakes to visit The Sculptures On The Lake for refreshments. A couple of hours were spent admiring the sculptures in a beautiful environment, before returning to Dorchester and then back to base,

We were very fortunate with the weather, although windy and only the occasional spits and spots of rain. The evening meals were varied and enjoyable.

A big thank you to the ride leaders, who spent time beforehand researching the rides, without which the break would not have been what it was. Also thanks to those who were backmarkers during our rides.

The companionship of the group was wonderful and this and the lovely rides that we enjoyed made the whole break a great success.
